Eighty pilgrims from Karnataka, including 23 from Gadag, are stuck at a camp due to inclement weather.

BENGALURU, GADAG: About 80 Amarnath pilgrims from Karnataka, including 23 from Gadag, are stuck at a camp while returning from the cave shrine due to inclement weather. The pilgrims are stuck at a tent at Panchatarni at an altitude of 12,729 ft and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to provide all possible aid for their safe return.

Army personnel are helping move people to safety.

The pilgrims are about 5 km away from the Amarnath cave shrine. An avalanche occurred about 10 km from the Amarnath shrine following which the devotees got stuck at the camp. The pilgrims visited the cave shrine on July 4 and were on their way back. Army personnel are making all efforts to move the pilgrims safely.

Meanwhile, the Gadag district administration and police are also making arrangements for the safe return of the pilgrims. Deputy Commissioner B N Nemagouda said that following an appeal by the pilgrims to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the army and the Centre’s special representatives are extending all support to those who are stuck.
