VIRUDHUNAGAR (Tamil Nadu): In a tragic incident, eight people were killed after an explosion took place at a firecracker manufacturing unit near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district on Thursday, an official said.
Jeyaselan, Virudhunagar Collector, informed that the rescue operation is under way. Further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu has condoled the loss of lives in the incident. In a post on X, the President wrote, “Saddened to learn about the loss of many lives due to an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured”.(ANI)
