71st Wildlife Week celebrations kick off with walkathon

BENGALURU: The 71st Wildlife Week celebrations commenced with a walkathon to raise awareness about wildlife conservation. The walkathon started from the Grand Steps of Vidhana Soudha, with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, and wildlife conservation ambassador Anil Kumble participating.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and the need to protect the natural habitat of various species. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of wildlife conservation and encouraged people to take steps to protect the environment. He also mentioned that the government will provide support to the forest department in its conservation efforts.

Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre highlighted the significance of wildlife conservation and the need to protect the natural balance. He also mentioned that Karnataka has taken a strong stance on wildlife conservation, with the state being home to over 5,395 elephants and 563 tigers.

Former cricketer and wildlife conservation ambassador Anil Kumble emphasized the need for collective efforts to protect wildlife and the environment. The Karnataka government has been working towards protecting the environment and wildlife, with initiatives such as planting saplings and creating protected areas.

 

The government has also been taking steps to preserve the state’s natural heritage, including declaring certain areas as protected zones. The event concluded with a call to action for people to take steps to protect the environment and wildlife, including avoiding the use of firecrackers during festivals like Deepavali.
