BENGALURU: A seven-year-old girl, Sanvi, from Mallavalli’s Nelluru village, died allegedly due to the negligence of doctors at MIMS Hospital in Mandya. The girl was undergoing treatment for a fractured leg. After a surgery, the girl’s condition worsened and she eventually died.
The girl had fallen and suffered a fracture in the leg and her father, Ningaraju, had admitted her to MIMS Hospital on May 29. The surgery was performed the same night and the girl was shifted to the ward after the operation. However, her condition deteriorated the next morning and she was shifted to the ICU.
On Saturday, the girl was administered medication through drips, after which she became unconscious. The doctors informed the family that the girl had died at 10.30 pm on Saturday. The family has made serious allegations against the doctors at MIMS Hospital.
Several organisations, along with the family members, protested on Sunday against the alleged negligence of doctors at MIMS Hospital. The police have registered a case against the hospital, and the parents alleged that the girl’s death was due to the medical negligence. The family members have alleged that the girl did not receive proper care after the surgery and that medical students, rather than qualified doctors, treated her. They have also accused the hospital of informing the police about the girl’s death before informing the parents. The family members have demanded action against the doctors.
However, the doctors have refuted these allegations, stating that the girl’s condition worsened after the surgery due to a drop in platelet count and infection. They claim that they did not neglect the girl’s treatment and that the surgery was performed after conducting necessary tests.
Following the outrage against MIMS doctors, Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi visited the scene. After talking to the protesters, he informed the media that the girl’s body had been sent to KR Hospital in Mysuru for postmortem examination. A team of doctors will investigate the alleged negligence and samples will be sent to the forensic laboratory for further examination, he said.
The SP stated that the investigation will look into the treatment given to the girl, the medicines administered and the cause of death. The autopsy will be conducted at KR Hospital, and the body was sent to Mysuru.
