BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched an e-Khata drive to resolve property disputes, duplication and to promote transparency in property ownership in the city. However, the programme is facing challenges due to the lack of proper documentation and survey numbers for around seven lakh properties.

There are instances of multiple owners claiming the same property, causing further complications. This issue is attributed to the corruption among lower-level revenue officials.

The BBMP had provided an opportunity for property owners to obtain e-Khata for the past two to three months. However, the civic body is struggling to distribute e-Khatas due to various issues. It has been discovered that around seven lakh properties in Bengaluru do not have an ‘A’ or ‘B’ Khata, creating confusion on how e-Khata will be issued for these properties.

Tushar Giri Nath, BBMP Chief Commissioner, stated that around seven lakh properties do not have any registration documents. This raises the question of how e-Khata will be issued to these properties.

“The BBMP has uploaded 22 lakh draft documents online. However, there are instances where multiple owners are claiming the same property, causing further complications in issuing e-Khata. We are inviting property owners to get the final khata from the draft khata. In the coming months, we will mandidate the e-khata system. We have submitted a report to the government regarding rules and regulations, making some liberal (relaxation) in them. Once the government gets approval, the BBMP will execute the rules”, the chief commissioner said.

Meanwhile, citizens allege that this is a problem of bribery of the lower-level revenue officers of the corporation.
