7-day-old infant rescued from being trafficked in Dharwad

DHARWAD: A newborn baby, which was about to be sold for Rs 50,000, was rescued by the Child Protection Office. The seven-day old baby was brought from Bagalkot to the district hospital here by two women who claimed that the infant was unwell.

On suspicion, the hospital staff informed the Child Protection Officer and the baby was rescued after the two women were grilled. The baby is currently in the hospital.

A case of child trafficking has been booked against Rama Muthalik and her mother Chaya Savadi. The Town police have taken up further investigation.
