HASSAN: A 65-year-old farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide, allegedly due to debt burden, at Muduganur village in Arkalgud taluk on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Annajaiah (65). He had borrowed a loan of about Rs 10 lakh from banks and was distressed due to crop loss. Upset over mounting debt, he consumed pesticide and he died.
A case has been registered at Konanur police station and the body was sent to Arkalgud Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police visited the spot and further investigation is under way.
