YADGIR: Six people of a family, including a six-month-old girl child, died after a car crashed into a truck at Arakera(K) in Gurmitkal taluk on Thursday night. While four people died on the spot, two others died on the way to hospital. Another boy, who was seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at GIMS in Kalaburagi.
All the deceased are from Hatti village in Lingasugur taluk of Kalaburagi district. They had been to Hazrat Abdul Shah dargah at Chittlapalli near Kodangal in Telangana and were heading back to Hatti when the accident occurred. The truck driver fled from the spot.
Yadgir SP Dr C B Vedamurthy and police inspector Daulat Kuri visited the spot. The SP said that Mohammed Wajid Hussain, along with his parents, wife, two children and another relative, had been to the dargah for the jawal ceremony (hair removal) of his six-month-old daughter Umeza. Three-year-old Fazil, who sustained serious injuries was shifted to GIMS in Kalaburagi where he is said to be out of danger.
The deceased were identified as Mohammed Wajid Hussain (39), Mohammed Mazar Hussain (79), Noor Jahan Begum (70), Hina Begum (30), Imran (22) and Umeza (6 months).
“The car was fully packed at it was raining at night. Th e place where the accident occurred is not accident-prone. The car driver seems to have swerved to the right and hit the truck head-on. The 112 emergency response acted quickly and shifted those injured to hospital”, the SP said. A case has been registered at Gurmitkal police station.
