BENGALURU: A history-sheeter, identified as Pavan Kumar, was hacked to death by a group of assailants in Thanisandra under Sampigehalli police station limits, late on Wednesday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with police investigating the case from multiple angles, including old enmity and revenge.
Pavan, a history-sheeter from DJ Halli police station, was released from jail three months ago on bail in a murder case. His family had set up a bakery for him a month-and-a-half ago, hoping he would turn over a new leaf. However, it seems his past caught up with him.

According to eyewitnesses, six people arrived on three bikes, wearing helmets, and attacked Pavan with machetes and long knives in front of his mother. His traumatised mother Komala alleged that Pavan had told her about being followed by someone named Prem. “They killed him in front of me”, she said, breaking down in tears.
The police suspect that Pavan’s murder could be a revenge killing, linked to the murder of Kapil, who was hacked to death near DJ Halli three years ago. Pavan was one of the five accused in that case. The modus operandi of the attack is similar, with the assailants wearing helmets and attacking the victim with sharp objects.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Mithun Kumar said, “We are investigating whether the murder is linked to old enmity or not. The victim had a criminal background and was involved in a murder case in 2023. We are looking into the possibility of Prem, Kapil’s brother, being involved in the murder.”
The police have gathered some clues and are investigating the case from different angles. They are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the murder.
