VIJAYAPURA: A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison due to financial distress in Baba Nagar in Tikota taluk on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Manohar Ayatwada. The farmer had sprayed his grape crop with the wrong fertiliser, and the grapes that were ready for harvest had dried up. Upset over this, he committed suicide.
The farmer had taken a loan of Rs 5 lakh and it is believed that he took the extreme step due to financial distress. The incident occurred in Tikota police station limits.
