BENGALURU: A recruitment agency has been accused of duping several job aspirants of lakhs of rupees after promising them jobs of staff nurse at the ESI hospital in Rajajinagar. The recruitment agency normally provides the services of nurses on contract basis through tender.

Anup of Truetype, who hails from Rajasthan, is accused of duping 52 people after taking Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh from each of them. The victims had staged a protest and demanded that the agency be either shut down or blacklisted. After this, the ESI hospital has added it to the blacklist.

Rajeshwari, a staff nurse at ESI hospital in Rajajinagar, said, “I was on maternity leave for long. When I asked Truetype for renewal of my contract, they said there is no vacancy here. They had given job to other people and told me to look for a job in other hospitals. I had given Rs 1.5 lakh to get the staff nurse job. Now I lost money and job too. The agency is not responding to my calls”.

Later, the hospital invited fresh tender for a recruitment agency, but Anup is said to have participated in it though his agency was blacklisted. Question are now being raised over how he got to participate in the fresh tender. The medical superintendent of the hospital, Thomas Prasannaraj, has declined to respond to the issue.

Recruitment for any ESI hospitals or any purchases by government agencies should be done through the GEM portal of the Union government and Truetype was also an enlisted agency. It is said that some of the associates of a former dean of the hospital and personal assistant were involved in the recruitment process. The newly appointed dean Dr Sandhya is conducting the investigation and has promised action against those involved.
