BENGALURU: The Bengaluru roads are set to get a layer of asphalt, with the government giving the green signal. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is planning to invite tenders for about 500 km of single‑layer asphalt work, with a budget of Rs 1,200 crore.
Potholes on roads have become a major problem, and despite the GBA’s deadlines, filling the potholes hasn’t been completed. Meanwhile, last month during the ‘White Topping’ inauguration in the Gandhinagar constituency, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed the Urban Development Department’s Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath and GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao to lay a single layer of asphalting.
Now GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has submitted a proposal to the government to lay a single layer of asphalt on Bengaluru’s roads. The government has approved the proposal and plans to asphalt the roads at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore and tenders are expected to be invited soon.
Furthermore, the GBA has decided to lay a single layer of asphalt on 550 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads in Bengaluru. There is opposition everywhere because potholes haven’t been fixed, and to get rid of the ‘pothole’ label, the GBA is planning a single layer of asphalt to help to smooth traffic. There is a possibility that a single layer of asphalt will be laid within the next month, Rao said.
