45 taken ill after chlorine gas leak in Hosadurga

CHITRADURGA: At least 45 people were hospitalised with respiratory problems and vomiting near the APMC in Hosadurga town after leakage of chlorine gas, used for water purification, near a water tank on Monday evening. Immediately, the affected individuals were admitted to Hosadurga taluk hospital, where Taluk Health Officer Raghavendra provided necessary treatment.

Hosadurga MLA BG Govindappa and deputy commissioner Venkatesh visited the Hosadurga taluk hospital on Tuesday nand inquired about the health status of people who fell sick and took stock of the situation.

Speaking to media, MLA Govindappa said that the problem was caused by an unexpected chlorine gas leak, and 45 people from nearby houses were affected. Most have been treated and discharged, while 3-4 individuals remain hospitalised. “Doctors confirmed that there is no risk to life. The staff of the municipal council and the taluk hospital have done a great job.  No casualties have been reported”, he said.
