CHITRADURGA: Four people died on the spot after the car they were travelling in rammed into a parked truck on National Highway-150 near Mallapura in the taluk on Monday. Three other children in the car sustained injuries and were shifted to the district government hospital for treatment.
The deceased were identified as Shamshuddin (40), Mallika (37), Khalil (42) and Tabrez (13), all hailing from Tumakuru. The car (KA 14 N 9979) was coming from Davanagere to Tumakuru when it rammed into the parked truck after its brakes failed.
Truck driver Mahesh said his vehicle broke down around 7.10 am and he managed to bring it to the shoulder of the road. “About 12-13 minutes later, I heard a loud sound and got down to see what had happened and I saw that the car had hit the left side of my truck. We immediately called the police and the children were shifted to hospital in an ambulance”.
The car was completely crushed due to the impact. Chitradurga SP Dharmendra Kumar Meena and other senior officials visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Chitradurga Rural police station.
