KOLAR: Four people, including an Ayyappa devotee, died after their car crashed into the road divider on the Bengaluru-Chennai Express Highway near Abbenahalli in Malur taluk around midnight on Monday.
The four friends, all IT professionals from Chennai, were returning to Bengaluru in their Hyundai Verna car. The driver lost control, and the car hit the divider, falling off the bridge.
The victims Gopi (38), Gautam Ramesh (28), Hariharan (27) and Jayashankar (30), were rushed to R L Jalappa Hospital, Kolar, where they succumbed to their injuries after a prolonged treatment.
The police had to conduct a four-hour-long rescue operation to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage. A case has been registered at the Malur police station and further investigation is under way.
