4 children dead in separate cases; Boiling sambar and water claim two lives, 2 girls drown

DAVANAGERE: Four children have died in separate incidents in the distict in the last 24 hours. While two are girls, the other two are boys.

Two children died after they drowned in a farm pond at Asagodu village in Jagalur taluk. The deceased are Gangothri (12) and Tanushree (10). The two girls were playing in the farm when they slipped into the pond. Though the villagers rushed to their aid, the children breathed their last.

Farm ponds, which are meant to help farmers conserve water for irrigational needs, have become death traps for children and adults alike. The Jagalur police have registered a case.

At Gollarahatti in Jagalur town, four-year-old Mithun died after hot sambar kept in the kitchen fell on him. Though he was rushed to hospital, he did not survive.

Mithun accidentally touched the vessel containing hot sambar and his entire body was burnt. His parents immediately rushed him to the district hospital in Davanagere, and from there to KIMS in Hubballi, but Mithun did not survive.

Four-year-old Mithun died after hot sambar fell on him in the kitchen.

At Tyavanage village in Channagiri taluk, one-and-half-year-old Yashas died after boiling water fell on him in the bathroom. Despite hospitalisation, the boy did not survive.

Vadnal Thippesh, his wife Renuka and their son Yashas had gone to her parental home in Tyavanage and were staying there for the last few days. Renuka had kept a pot of hot water in the bathroom and had gone to clean some puja items.

Yashas entered the bathroom and tugged at the pot, resulting in the hot water burning him down the waist. The parents immediately rushed Yashas to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, but the infant did not respond to treatment. The Basavapatna police have registered a case.
