DAVANAGERE: Four people have been arrested for allegedly blackmailing the management of a private college in Davangere, demanding Rs 2 crore. They had allegedly received Rs 2 lakh from the college authorities.
The accused were arrested by the Vidyanagar police based on a complaint filed by the head of The Team Academy. They allegedly posed as members of the Dalit Struggle Committee and demanded money from the college.
The accused, identified as Kundawada resident Manjunath, Praveen and Kallaiah from Gandhinagar, and Hanumantha from Shamanur, were among the four arrested and produced before the court. The police have been granted 14 days of judicial custody of the accused.
“The accused got one Swamy to call the college authorities and threaten them that they have violated rules and regulations. Finally, they settled for Rs 20 lakh and threatened to expose the institute. Based on a complaint, four people have been arrested and we will take against any others involved”, said SP Uma Prashant.
