34.5 lakh women to get Rs 1 lakh each as Bhagya Lakshmi bonds mature

BENGALURU: About 34.50 lakh young women beneficiaries will receive Rs 1 lakh each as the Bhagya Lakshmi bonds, issued when BJP leader B S Yediyurappa was chief minister, have now matured after 18 years.

When Yediyurappa was the Chief Minister, the Bhagya Lakshmi Bond scheme was launched, and now, after 18 years, the beneficiaries will receive the maturity amount, according to the Women and Child Development Department.

The Bhagya Lakshmi scheme was launched by the state government in 2006-07, and the beneficiaries will receive a maturity amount of Rs 1 lakh from Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) after completion of 18 years. The scheme aims to support higher education of girls and other activities.
