RAICHUR: About 36 passengers of a private AC sleeper bus, travelling from Bengaluru to Raichur, had a lucky escape after it caught fire near Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh around 3 am on Friday. The fire broke out after a rear tyre burst, according to the passengers.
The bus, operated by Green Line, was traveling from Bengaluru to Raichur via Mantralayam when the incident occurred. Though a tyre had burst, the driver continued for about 1km when the passengers started arguing with him to stop the bus.
Passengers alleged that the bus was not in good condition. Many of them lost theri valuables, including documents, mobile phones, laptops, cash and jewellery in the fire.
The passengers have lodged a complaint with the police, alleging negligence on the part of the driver and the travel agency. The driver has been taken into custody by the Anantapur police. The passengers are now seeking compensation for their losses.
