30 pilgrims stuck at ashram in Savanur village rescued by firefighters

The pilgrims were rescued by firemen on Monday.

HAVERI: About 30 pilgrims, who were stuck at a math overnight due to overflowing water caused by heavy rain were rescued by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel on Monday.

The pilgrims from Allapura village in Hangal taluk were on their way to Pandarapur in Maharashtra and had camped at the Ramalinga Math on the outskirts of Baradur in Savanur taluk. However, they were stuck as water from the Bhajirayana Halla was flowing all around the math by Monday morning.

Meanwhile, a passenger van carrying about 18 people, got stuck in a flooded railway underpass on the outskirts of Ranebennur on Monday. The vehicle was on its way from Guttala to Ranebennur.

The van driver misjudged the level of water in the underpass and proceeded. However, the vehicle stalled midway. The firemen and Railway officials later got an excavator to pull out the van from the water the rescued the passengers.
