KOLAR: At least 30 people were injured, 10 seriously, after a private bus carrying around 55 people, mostly wedding guests, overturned into a roadside canal near Sugaturu village in Sidlaghatta taluk on Tuesday night. However, there were no casualties.
The bus was returning from a wedding ceremony in Kolar and was headed to Dibburahalli village in Chikkaballapur district. The injured were rushed to Kolar District Hospital for treatment. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The wedding guests had attended a ceremony at Ratna Kalyana Mantapa in Kolar and the bus was returning to Dibburahalli when the accident occurred. Of the 30 passengers, 15 were women. The passengers were helped out of the bus by locals who heard their screams. The local police and fire tenders also visited the spot.
On Wednesday morning, the bus was recovered from the canal using a crane. Many of the bus passengers lost their mobile phones, jewellery, footwear and other belongings in the water.
