BENGALURU: Despite the threat of a Covid surge and suggestions to wear masks in public places, many air passengers are disregarding the use of masks at the Kempegowda International Airport.

While only a few travellers were seen wearing masks, most were not. Surprisingly, no effort was being made to create awareness among the passengers about the need to wear masks.

Three more people have tested Covid-positive at KIA during random testing, taking the count to 22 so far. The passengers include one each from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Hong Kong. Two of them are from Bengaluru while one person is from Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to shift passengers who test positive to hospitals in Bengaluru city and Bengaluru Rural, where beds are earmarked. Those with symptoms like fever, cold or cough will be quarantined. Passengers will be given a choice to get admitted to private hospitals at their cost or to government-notified hospitals. Two ambulances have been kept on standby for the purpose.
