RAICHUR: Three girls of a family attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at K Irabagera village in Devadurga taluk on Sunday. While one of them died after falling into a well, another is in serious condition and yet another is recovering.

Renuka had fallen into a well and could not be rescued.

The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Renuka while Thimmavva and Sunitha are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. However, the exact reason for the girls attempting to end their lives was not immediately known.

Ramanna, a relative, said the girls had gone to work on a cotton field and returned home around lunch time. They then consumed pesticide and Renuka jumped into a well on the farm where they were working. She died before she could be rescued.

“This happened around 1 pm on Sunday and Renuka’s body was found only around 4 pm. They had apparently told two other labourers earlier in the day that they were not feeling well”, he said. While Sunitha is undergoing treatment at the government hospital at Arakera, Thimmavva, whose condition is serious, is admitted at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences.
