SHIVAMOGGA: In a swift operation, the Jayanagar police have arrested three people connection with the murder of an accountant, Vijay, on Tuesday. Police Inspector Harish Patel opened fire at one of the accused who tried to attack the police team which had gone to recover the murder weapon. The injured police constable Roshan has been admitted to a private hospital.
Zabi (23) who suffered a bullet injury after police opened fire at him and is under going treatment at McGann Hospital. Karthik (21) and Darshan(21) are the two other accused in the murder case.
Zabi has been involved in as many as 11 cases in different police stations and has been booked for extortion, robbery, murder attempt and ganja smuggling. There are seven cases registered against Darshan in several police stations, and Karthik is involved in three cases.
Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar told the media, “The police had taken Zabi near a canal behind Harsha Fern Hotel to recover the weapon which was used to commit the crime. Soon after getting hold of the weapon, Zabi allegedly tried to attack Roshan, who was escorting him. Zabi’s action prompted Kumsi Police Inspector Harish Patel to open fire at his leg to protect the colleague and himself from the attack. Roshan sustained minor injuries. One more person from the group is absconding. He said the accused took a gold chain from Vijay before stabbing him to death.”
Giving details about the incident, the SP said, “On that day, Vijay had just returned home after watching the movie ‘Kantara’ with his family members. He got a call from the hospital late at night, as he was working in the accounts section. When Vijay left for the hospital from the home around 2.30 am, they waylaid him and killed him. They even took a gold chain from him before the murder. They are hardcore criminals and were prepared with a knife”, he said.
