BENGALURU: A total of 272 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, including 178 men, 94 women, and 12 children, have been deported from Bengaluru. The Central Crime Branch police are investigating the agents who brought these migrants into the country.
The agents, also known as ‘thekedars’, facilitate the migrants’ illegal entry into India and help them find work. The thekedars operate in three stages: one brings the migrants from Bangladesh to the Indian border, another helps them cross the border, and the third helps them find work in India. Two thekedars have been arrested in Bengaluru so far.
The deportation is part of a nationwide operation following a central government directive. The migrants were deported via the Tripura border under BSF escort, coinciding with West Bengal elections.
