The two-day census documented 253 species of birds in MM Hills wildlife sanctuary.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: A two-day bird census carried out in the Male Mahadeshwara (MM) Hills wildlife sanctuary has revealed an increase in numbers of the avians while also documenting 253 different species. The exercise was taken up in view of the increasing numbers.

The bird census was taken up in a 949.469 sqkm area including Hanur and Kollegal taluks by teams of over 500 bird watchers, experts and Forest Department staff. The species documented include vultures, woodpeckers, Eucalyptus wood pigeon (Columba elphinstonei) among others.
