BENGALURU: In just one month’s time, 13 youngesters have succumbed to heart attacks in Hassan, revealing a shocking trend.
According to Dr Ravindra, Director of Jayadeva Heart Hospital, about 20 per cent of the patients coming to the hospital with heart attacks are young people. The hospital has seen an increase in young patients in the outpatient department as well.
Dr Ravindra said, “We have taken the 250 samples of the below 45 age group. The major reason is lifestyle. Abdominal obesity would also be a reason. We are also studying how many people are suffering from Covid, and how many of them have taken the vaccine, smoke or consume alcohol, what are the risk factors, etc. The preliminary study is over now. We are studying in all dimensions”.
The director attributed the rise in heart attacks among young people to factors such as increased blood pressure after the age of 30, smoking, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, hookah, ganja, cocaine and consumption of marijuana, as well as mental stress.
To prevent heart attacks, Dr Ravindra recommends
1. Regular blood pressure checkup
2. Regular blood sugar checks
3. Adopting a healthy lifestyle
4. Engaging in daily physical activity and exercise
5. Avoiding junk food, including pizza and burgers (likely referring to processed or fast food)
6. Practice meditation or yoga.
The hospital has reported that in the last month alone, 13 young people have died of heart attacks in Hassan district, including two 20-year-old men and two young women. This trend has raised concerns among the youth.
