BIDAR: A mob indulged in stone-throwing in front of the Basavakalyan police station on Wednesday night after a group of people allegedly harassed some maulvis (Islamic clerics) in the town. A mob gathered outside the police station, protesting against the incident and clashing with police.
The protesters hurled stones at the police station, damaging vehicles and property and some police personnel were also injured in the attack. The incident has sparked outrage, with locals gathering in large numbers to protest the attack.
Police have registered a case against 49 people and arrested 20, including some of the alleged attackers. The local MLA, Sharanu Salagar, has blamed the Congress for the incident, alleging that they were involved in the violence. He demanded that the CID or SIT investigate into the matter, and urged the Home Minister to take action.
The police are investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers, and trying to restore calm in the area. Exclusive footage obtained by Public TV shows the extent of the damage caused to the police station and vehicles. The situation is tense, but efforts are under way to restore peace.
