2 killed, 6 injured as bus rams divider near Haveri village

The bus driver claimed that the vehicle overturned while trying to avoid a car which was ahead.

HAVERI: Two children were killed and six other passengers were injured after a private bus rammed into a road divider near Motebennur in Byadagi taluk on the National Highway-48 past midnight on Tuesday police said.

According to the police, the bus, carrying 36 passengers, was on its way from Sangli in Maharashtra to Tamil Nadu via Bengaluru. The injured were shifted to Haveri district hospital for treatment.

“Two people died after a private bus rammed into a road divider. Six people were seriously injured in the accident and have been admitted to the Haveri district hospital. A total of 36 people were on board the bus. The accident occurred near Motebennur village”, Haveri police said.

Haveri Police Superintendent Yashoda Vantagodi, who oversaw the rescue operations, told Public TV, “The bus driver claimed that a car came ahead and braked suddenly an in an attempt to avoid the car, the bus hit divider. There were 36 were in the bus and the two dead are a 11-year-old girl and a 14-15-year-old boy named Yash. The bus driver is safe and we are collecting dash cam footage”.
