2 held in separate theft cases in Hassan

HASSAN: Two men were arrested in separate theft cases on Saturday and stolen cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 90 lakh were recovered from them.

Mohammed Khalid, a resident of Gutti village in Chikkamagalur, was arrested from Kurnool in AP.

On September 21, 2021, a theft was reported at Visvesvaraya Layout in the city. Raghu, the house owner, lodged a complaint at Pension Mohalla police station stating that someone had stolen gold and diamond jewellery worth other valuables worth Rs 1.28 crore. South Zone IGP Praveen Madhukar Pawar had also visited the spot. The investigation went on for a year.

The police checked CCTV footage MG Road, Belur Ring Road, Salagame Road and many other places. A special team was formed under the supervision of ASP K M Thammaiah, DySP G V Udayabhaskar, and Pension Mohalla CPI Renukaprasad.

Finally, the police tracked down Mohammed Khalid, a resident of Gutti village in Chikkamagalur to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and picked him up on November 5. The accused confessed to the crime during questioning at the Pension Mohalla police station on November 6. The police recovered 1.714 gm gold jewellery worth Rs 78 lakh from him.

In another case, Manjunath alias Koli Manja of Deve Gowda Nagar was arrested by the Hassan Town police. About 300 gm of gold jewellery and 100 gm of silver worth Rs 15 lakh were recovered from him.
