BENGALURU: Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy on Friday said that two police personnel attached to the Hoysala patrol squad, who had extorted Rs 1,000 from a couple near Manyata Tech Park in December have been dismissed from service.

Addressing a press conference, he said, “We had assured of taking prompt action and after a departmental inquiry, the two staffers have been dismissed. A few other such instances too have come to our attention and departmental inquiries are being conducted. We would like to assure citizens that strict action will be taken wherever wrong-doing of police personnel is found. We would like to give transparent and trustworthy service”.

Regarding the case where a Home Guard was arrested for extorting money from a couple who were in the Kundalahalli park, he said a criminal case has been registered and further investigation is under way. On the ‘Santro’ Ravi case, he said the department will disclose the details after they submit their report to the court.

To a question on why no arrests have been made yet in the Metro pillar crash case, the police commissioner said, “We have received technical reports and issued notices to those involved. We will complete the investigation in about 15 days.
