19K cases booked for defective number plates in 22 days

BENGALURU: The traffic police have conducted a massive operation and booked over 19,000 cases for defective number plates in just 22 days across the state. Of these, 9,684 cases have booked in Bengaluru.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar posted on X about menace of defective number plates and stated, “Another menace, defective/without number plates, used to dodge law enforcement authorities in Traffic violations and Road accident cases and even for committing crime”.

“In past 22 days  more than 19 K cases booked “Defiance of law and manipulation must be dealt with firmly”, he added. Such vehicles are being used to commit crimes and escape from road accident cases.

This is part of a comprehensive strategy by the traffic police to curb illegal activities and traffic violations. Defective number plates pose a challenge to identify and track vehicles. Moreover, it will provide protection for those involved in criminal activities, including hit-and-run cases.

Vehicle numbers are crucial for law enforcement, road safety and traffic management. Law enforcement agencies use numbers to detect traffic violations, prevent crimes, and identify vehicles involved in accidents or illegal activities.
