BENGALURU: The Sampagiramnagar police have filed a 193-page chargesheet in court in a case where a woman, a dentist by profession, threw her four-year-old specially abled daughter Drithi Balakrishna from the fourth floor balcony of their apartment building on August 4 this year.
The chargesheet reveals some shocking information. It says the child was suffering with autism, and was not mentally retarded. Sushma, the mother, had to take the child to therapy every day and she was unhappy about it. Her husband Kiran was working from home when she flung the child to its death.
During preliminary investigation, police suspected that Sushma may have been suffering from depression and had committed the crime. The police have recorded the statements of 34 witnesses and three eyewitnesses. The police had registered a case based on Kiran’s complaint and had taken up investigation based on CCTV footage and the witness statements.
The chargesheet sayd that Sushma was unhappy with the child and was fed up with taking care of her. She thought that if the situation continued like this, she could not enjoy her life, and decided to get rid of the child. Her family members too kept taunting her baby whenever she went to attend social gatherings.
During the investigation, it came to light that Sushma had attempted twice earlier to throw her baby. She had seen that there was a tree nearby and thought that it may break the baby’s fall. She later decided to throw the baby on hard ground.
Interestingly, a NIMHANS report about Sushma’s health condition says that she is fit and healthy. She was not mentally depressed when she committed the crime. She has no other health issues and had killed the child intentionally.
