BELAGAVI: A 19-year-old nursing student, identified as Sumitra Gokak, ended her life by hanging in her hostel room at Dr B R Ambedkar Government Post-Metric Girls Hostel at Sadashivanagar in Belagavi on Monday. The exact reason behind her suicide is yet to be determined.
The incident occurred after she had breakfast and locked herself in her room. When her roommate came and knocked the door, Sumitra was found dead. On receiving information, Sumitra’s family members rushed to the hostel and were overcome with grief. The hostel room was opened in the presence of Sumitra’s father and other relatives.
Sumitra had joined the hostel a month ago for nursing studies. She was a resident of Ghataprabha in Belagavi district’s Gokak taluk. The police have visited the scene and are conducting an investigation. The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the APMC police station.
