CHIKKABALLAPUR: A couple’s love marriage has led to a dramatic turn of events at Gopalli village in Chintamani taluk. Just three days into the marriage, the woman attempted suicide and is now recovering in a hospital.
Nitin (23) and Sukanya (19) eloped and got married at a temple three days ago. However, upon their return, Nitin’s family members dropped a bombshell, claiming the couple is related like a brother and sister and that their marriage was unacceptable.
The family opposed the marriage, citing social repercussions, which left Sukanya devastated. In a desperate attempt, she consumed poison and was rushed to Chintamani government hospital. Sukanya is adamant about being with Nitin.
Speaking from the hospital, Sukanya said they got married five days ago. “After settlement, Nitin’s family took him home and my parents too took me home. I want to live with him, I am apprehensive that Nitin’s parents may get him married elsewhere and hence, I consumed poison”.
The incident occurred in Kencharlahalli police station limits.
