HASSAN: A 19-year-old girl, who had stepped into the Hemavathi backwaters at Gorur, drowned and died after she lost her footing on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nithya.
She had gone to the Anjaneya Swamy temple at Aralikatte village with some relatives on account of Hanuman Jayanti. After offering prayers at the temple, Nithya was frolicking in the backwaters of the Gorur dam when she drowned. She was the daughter of Girish of the Aralikatte village in Kattaya hobli.
The Fire and Emergency Services personnel launched a search for the body. The Gorur police visited the spot.
