BENGALURU: A 19-year-old college student ended his life by shooting himself in the chest with his father’s licenced double barrel gun at their house at Tirumalapura near Chikkabidarakallu in Madanayakanahalli police limits on Wednesday evening. The deceased is Vishu Uthappa, who was pursuing his BE first year course at RR College.
Vishu shot himself when both his parents were away and the incident came to light when they returned. His father Ravi Thammaiah, who earlier worked in the security division of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), came home around 9 pm and immediately shifted him to a hospital nearby. However, Vishu did not respond to treatment and died.
The father Ravi Thammaiah said, “He was unwell, but refused to come to a hospital. Me and my wife had gone out shopping and he had called on my wife’s phone and also spoke to me about his illness. When we returned home, we found him writhing in pain and we shifted him to hospital. He had cordial relations with people in the neighbourhood and in college too.
The motive for the suicide was not known. The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for autopsy from a private hospital in Peenya and later handed over to the family. A forensic team visited the house and the police have seized Vishu’s mobile phone.
