17-year-old student commits suicide over securing low marks in test

UDUPI: A 17-year-old girl student of S R PU college in Hebri committed suicide at her residence at Perdoor on Tuesday after allegedly scoring low mark in a class test. The deceased has been identified Trupthi (17).

Trupthi had done well in her SSLC examination. She had got a free seat at the college and chose science for further studies.

In a complaint letter, her father mentioned that the principal of the college called her to the chamber and scolded her for scoring low marks in a class test. In front of everyone in the class, the principal told her to pay a fine for scoring low marks. The family members alleged that she was so upset over this that she committed suicide.

A case has been registered at Hiriyadka police station and the body was sent to Kasturba Medical College in Manipal for post-mortem examination. The exact reason is not yet known, and the police are investigating the case further.

“Trupthi was a distinction student and she has not scored low marks in any examination. We do not know why our student took such hasty decision. No one scolded her in  college. We are very sad to hear the news and we are in a lot of pain hearing about her death”, said the secretary of S R PU College.
