BENGALURU: The state has emerged as a leader in organ donation in the country with 150 people pledging together at a time at in Nu Hospital at Padmanabhanagar on Thursday.
Many people have been inspired by late actor Puneeth Rajkumar who donated his eyes which were used to restore vision in four people through advanced technology. Several people, who do not follow Puneet as closely too have pledged to donate organs. On Thursday, a huge organ donation awareness camp was held and more than 150 people, including the hospital staff, took a pledge for organ donation at a time in the hospital.
“We organised an organ donation awareness camp to create awareness among people. Many have taken the pledge for organ donation after being inspired by celebrities like Puneeth Rajkumar. The goal of this awareness campaign was to educate people on the various misconceptions surrounding it. About 150 people, including the public and our staff, participated and pledged for the donation”, said Dr Dileep Rangarajan, Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Medical Director at Nu Hospitals.
“I learnt at an organ donation awareness camp that over 6,000 people are waiting to receive organ transplants. People believe in reincarnation, but I feel that donating organs can also be considered as reincarnation. My family and I have pledged to donate our organs. I also got inspired by many celebrities too”, said Anuroopa, one of those who pledged her organs for donation.
