BENGALURU: Fourteen flights were diverted from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday evening due to heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds blowing at 20 kmph.
Of them, 12 flights were diverted to Chennai International airport, one each to Coimbatore International Airport and Hyderabad International airport. Among the flights that were diverted were seven IndiGo flights, one GoFirst flight, one Air India flight and two Akasa Air flights, arriving from Delhi and Mumbai, according to a statement from BIAL.
The weather report said 4-6 cm of heavy rainfall was recorded in the vicinity of the airport. Moreover, the wind is blowing at a speed of 20 km per hour, which has hindered the landing of the flights.
The weather department has predicted cloudy weather condition till April 5 and the city witnessed brief rain and thunder, cool weather on Monday night and Tuesday evening.
The rainfall recorded at HAL Airport-1 was 58.5 mm, Hagaduru 57.5mm, HAL Airport-2 was 49.5mm, Varthur 36.5mm, Bellandur 26.5mm, Konena Agrahara 20.5mm and Whitefield (pvt) 77mm.
