13-year-old boy hooked to mobile phone commits suicide after being scolded by father

The father took away the phone and told the boy to concentrate on studies.

KARWAR: A 13-year-old Class 7 student of a government primary school committed suicide by hanging at his house at Mangalawad village in Haliyal taluk after his father dissuaded him from using the mobile phone excessively. The deceased was identified as Om Kadam.

The boy was addicted to the mobile phone and would spend a lot of time on it at home. His father Manohar had advised him against using the phone too much, but the boy would not listen.

On Tuesday night, Manohar snatched the mobile phone from Om Kadam’s had and scolded him to concentrate on his studies. Upset over this, the boy hung himself in the house. He was rushed to the government hospital in Haliyal, but did not survive. A case has been registered at the Haliyal police station.
