13 killed, two critically injured after passenger ban rams into parked lorry near Haveri

HAVERI: As many as 13 people, including two children, were killed and three were grievously injured after a Tempo Traveller passenger van rammed into a parked lorry on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway 48 near Gundenahalli Cross in Byadagi taluk on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Subhadrabai (65), Manasa (24), Manjula Bai (62), van driver Adarsh ​​(23), Arya, Vishalakshi (40), Rupabai (40), Nandan, Anjali, Nageshwar Rao, Arun Kumar and Bhagyalakshmi. The injured are Annapurna, Arpita, Parasuram and Gautham.

The police arrived at the spot upon getting information about the accident, and struggled to retrieve the crushed bodies from the Tempo Traveller.

The family hails from Emmihatti village near Bale Honnur in Bhadravati taluk of Shivamogga district. The accident occurred when the family was returning after visiting Chincholli Mayamma temple. The truck was parked beside the road at Guddenahalli Cross in Haveri district, officials said.

The two critically injured people have been admitted to a hospital and are currently undergoing treatment. The police are have registered a case and more details are awaited.
