CHIKKABALLAPUR: In a ghastly road accident, 13 people, including two children, died after an MPV crashed into a parked tanker near Chitravathi in the town early today. It is suspected that the accident occurred due to low visibility as there was dense fog.
The deceased hail from Gorentlapalle village in Andhra Pradesh and were residents of Hongasandra in Bengaluru. They had gone to their hometown for the Dasara celebrations and were returning to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.
All the deceased belonged to three different families and were travelling in the Tata Sumo MPV (AP 02 CH 1021) when it crashed into the parked truck (NL 01 Q 1954), according to Chikkaballapur SP D L Nagesh. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital mortuary.
“The MPV was coming from Bagepalli and the accident occurred around 7-7.10 am. There was dense fog in the morning and we will investigate the cause of the accident”, the SP said.
Among those dead include Aruna (38) and her son Hritwik (3), and Shantamma (37) and her 15-year-old son Rajavardhan. Aruna was married to Naveen of Doddaballapur and hailed from Gorantlapalle. Shantamma and Rajavardhan hailed from Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh and were residents of Hongasandra in Bengaluru. Both were working in a garment unit.
The other deceased include Gandavellala Venkatadri and his wife Vellala Lakshmi, Naramishamurthy (37) of Marganukunte in Bagepalli taluk, Tata Sumo driver Narasimha (45), Subbamma of Kamakshipalya, Paramal Pavan (28) and Narayanappa of Andhra Pradesh. The identities of two more victims is yet to be established.
Vellala Venkatadri and Vellala Lakshmi had got married only a year ago. They hailed from Vanavolu village in Hindupur and Venkatadri was working as a painter in Hongasandra. Narayanappa of Malakavarapalli was working as a security guard in Bengaluru. Narasimhamurthy had left behind his wife and children in their native village and was returning to Bengaluru alone.
Chikkaballapur MLA Pradeep Eshwar and senior police officials visited the spot.
