BENGALURU: As part of the most anticipated Cauvery Phase 5 project, residents of Bengaluru’s outskirts will finally receive Cauvery water supply after years of waiting.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has fixed the timeline for the Cauvery Phase 5 project, which will supply water to 110 villages which were added to the BBMP limits. The project, delayed due to technical issues and work delays, has now overcome all hurdles, officials say. Trial runs were successful in August, and engineers have confirmed the pipes are ready for water supply.
The project aims to provide 775 MLD (million litres per day) of water to the villages, with 5,00,000 pipeline connections. Currently, 55,000 connections have been provided in Phase 1, with plans to increase supply from 100 to 200 MLD.
Water Resources Minister and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar inspected the project and gave the green signal for its implementation. The BWSSB has begun preparations for the project’s launch. The Cauvery Phase 5 project work, which started in 2019, has been completed and is ready to release water to 110 villages from next week.
The Deputy Chief Minister confirmed that the project will be inaugurated during the Dasara festivities, as most of the major work has been completed. He has directed officials to finalise the remaining tasks and ensure that all arrangements are in place for the launch.
