11-year-old schoolgirl dies, family alleges teacher thrashed her

BENGALURU: A 11-year-old Class 4 student at a private school in Ramachandrapura died after she was allegedly beaten by a teacher. The girl fainted in class and was shifted to a hospital, but did not respond to treatment.

Nishita, it is said, tried to escape the beatings from her teacher when she fainted in the class around 3 pm on Friday. The school staff then shifted her to M S Ramaiah Hospital, but she did not respond to treatment.

 

Nishita fell unconscious in the class.

Nishita’s grandmother Narasamma claimed, “A Muslim teacher thrashed her and she fell down unconscious and lost her life. Previously, the teacher had hit Nishita in the eye with duster. When we got to know about it and went to the school, Nishita was unconscious. She was immediately taken to hospital, but she died. The school authorities are now offering us Rs 4 lakh compensation. We don’t want money, we want justice. The teacher should be arrested”, she said.

Nishita was first taken to a nearby hospital and then to MS Ramaiah Hospital.

Nishita and her younger brother studied at R D International School. Around 1.30 pm on Friday, she brought her brother out of the school and left him with the grandmother. Around 1.50 pm, she was brought out of the school in an unconscious state. The school staff first took her to a hospital nearby on a two-wheeler and then to M S Ramaiah Hospital. Only after the doctors declared her dead, the family was informed, they alleged.

The girl was taken to hospital on a two-wheeler.

Block Education Officer Ashwath Narayan said action will be taken based on the police investigation and post-mortem report. If it is established that the girl died due to thrashing by the teacher, then action will be taken against her and the school also, he said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Nishita had died even before she was shifted to hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Vinayak Patil said a complaint has been lodged by the girl’s family that she died due to thrashing by the teacher. The Gangammanagudi police have registered a case. The cause of death will be known in the post-mortem report, he added.
