11 trekkers, including 10 medicos, get stranded, rescued after 6-hour search

The trekkers were rescued in the wee hours on Tuesday.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: Eleven trekkers, including 10 medical students, who had lost their way from Ballalarayanadurga in Mudigere taluk, were rescued by police and some local youths after a six-hour search in the early hours on Tuesday.

Ten medical students from the Basaveshwara Medical College in Chitradurga, along with their Tempo Traveller driver, had booked ticket for trekking at Ballalarayanadurga, but headed out in the direction of Bandaje in the direction of Mangaluru on Monday. But they lost their way and got stranded.

The 10 medicos had come in a Tempo Traveller.

On receiving information, the Balur police, along with Mudigere youths Santosh Attigere, Sanjay and Snake Arif, launched a search on Monday evening and traced the trekking party around 2 am on Tuesday.

The police and the rescuers brought the trekkers back safely, arranged for food and their travel back to Chitradurga. The efforts of Balur police sub-inspector Dileep and staff and also the youths, have come in for much appreciation from the trekkers.
