BENGALURU: The city’s famous Karaga festival will be held for 11 days this year from March 29 to April 8. Devotees from across the state and different parts of the country, and also from abroad, are expected to take part in the festival.
The celebrations will begin with the flag hoisting for the car festival on March 29 and there will be daily rituals till April 10 including Hasi Karaga, Karaga Shakyotsava and flag hoisting for Vasanthotsava.
The Karaga organising committee members on Tuesday met the BBMP chief commissioner and discussed the preparations being made and also unveiled the calendar of events. The Palike has promised to release Rs 40.35 lakh immediately towards organising the festival, as it is the end of the financial year and will release the remaining Rs 75 lakh in April.
Karaga organising committee president Satish said they have requested the BBMP to ensure that the route which the Karaga takes be kept clean. Referring to objections from some quarters to the Karaga passing through the Mastan dargah, he said there will be no change in customs and that they cannot be changed.
