10-year-old boy dies after speeding truck knocks down two-wheeler in Hennur

BENGALURU: A 10-year-old boy died on the spot on his birthday after a speeding truck knocked him down on Saturday on Hennur Bande Main Road in Bengaluru. The deceased has been identified as Bhanutej.

The boy was riding a two-wheeler with his brother when a speeding truck knocked them down and ran over Bhanutej’s head. The impact was so severe that Bhanutej suffered severe head injuries and he died on the spot. His brother, who was riding the two-wheeler, suffered injuries and is being treated at Ambedkar Hospital.

The truck driver is currently absconding and the police are on the lookout for him. A case has been registered at the Hennur Traffic police station.

Bhanutej was the son of Ravi and Suma who hail from Chittoor. He had come to Bengaluru from Chittoor to learn Vedas and was living with his sister in RT Nagar. The brothers were on their way to the Anjaneya Temple where Bhanutej’s brother worked as a priest.

During Dhanurmasa month, the temple door are opened before sunrise. Thinking that if they slept in the temple overnight, they could open the temple door early in the morning, the brothers were heading temple on a two-wheeler at night.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck was speeding, which led to the accident. Bhanutej’s parents have arrived from Chittoor and the body has been shifted to Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
