1.86 lakh cases of crime registered in Bengaluru in last three years

BENGALURU: Bengaluru seems to be turning into a hub for criminal activities with the city recording over 50,000 cases every year, including murder, extortion, rape, and other offences. In the last three years, a staggering 1.86 lakh crime cases have been registered in Bengaluru.

The government attributes the rise in crimes to several factors, including unemployment and family problems, lack of education, increasing urbanisation and population growth, misuse of digital tools and social media, poverty and economic inequality, lack of awareness about the law, substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs, cybercrimes and online offences, fmily and social problems, such as domestic disputes and breakdown of social values, increasing population density in cities.

Crime data for Bengaluru over the last 3 years:
– 2023: 70,002 cases
– 2024: 58,930 cases
– 2025: 57,932 cases
Total: 1,86,864 cases

According to the Home Minister, the reasons for the increase in crimes include rapid urbanization and growing population leading to organised crimes; increasing use of digital tools and social media, leading to online crimes; Unemployment, poverty and lack of job opportunities contributing to crimes; Lack of education and law awareness; Substance abuse and addiction; Misuse of technology; Family and social problems such as domestic disputes and breakdown of social values.
