Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War opened to rave reviews worldwide and the movie has already shattered Justice League’s worldwide collection in a mere four days. The film that sees Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy fight in unison with Black Panther and Doctor Strange against Thanos is a visual delight that impressed everyone. It’s not a cakewalk to get so many characters under one roof and justify their screen presence. It’s a task since all the superheroes are different and enjoy a distinct fan-following. Yet Russo brothers tried their best to be fair to all and the result was the huge success of the film. The movie also featured a cameo by Red Skull aka the HYDRA Commander-in-chief, which was a big surprise element that the makers managed to keep under wraps. Even Ross Marquand, the actor who plays Red Skull, was asked to not reveal any details about his role since the makers wanted their fans to enjoy his cameo and wonder about his future.
Red Skull was transported to Vormir by the Tesseract at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, after which he took the title of Stonekeeper. He was the guardian of the Soul Stone, who helped Thanos achieve it after revealing one cruel condition. He informed Thanos that to obtain it, he must sacrifice something he loves, and we all know what happens after that. But was that the end for Marquand? No, I personally don’t think so. After Hugo Weaving (he played Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger), left his role and character after the movie, the makers could have easily asked any random actor to take his place. He barely had a 10-minute role and any actor would have done it. Yet they chose Ross Marquand of The Walking Dead fame. Why? There has to be a reason behind it, right? And any character could have been a Stonekeeper then why Red Skull? Even fans believe that he will play a crucial role in Avengers 4 that releases next year.
Also, did anyone notice the epic showdown that could feature Captain America and Red Skull? Come on, they know each other since the last 70 years so there has to be a face-to-face conversation between both of them. They’re both out of time – literally and figuratively. So it will be interesting to see their reaction once they face each other, right? Before the release of Infinity War, no one had even speculated that Red Skull will grace the screen once again. But now that we know he has, it’s always better to expect more from him. Hope the makers won’t disappoint us by ending his character’s part right there.
